Questions & Responses

Use Test Pilot's designer window for the easy entry of questions and selection of response types. In it's simplest form, the creation of a question is as simple as entering the text of a question in the box provided and then selecting the type of response you expect from the bank of response type radio buttons.

Ultimately, the information entered will be used by Test Pilot to produce a nicely formatted HTML web page for publishing on the Internet with a World Wide Web server.

Additional input is needed in the case of multiple choice and check all responses; that is, the choices themselves must be entered. Beyond that, cosmetic options such as the use of pop-up menus versus radio buttons and the ability to include a GIF or JPEG image to accompany the questions complete the extent of the effort required to design a question/response pair.

  • Question Text - This is where the text of the question is entered. Normally on the published test this will be formatted as slightly larger, bold text with a question number. If you wish to override this formatting with HTML markup of your own, simply check the HTML checkbox.

  • Media - This is where a filename may be entered for media to accompany the question. Typically, this media is a JPEG or GIF image. However, MIDI sound and 320 x 240 QuickTime videos are supported. Support for other media types such as audio, 3D graphics, speech are also planned. You may enter a complete URL (e.g. http://www.yy.zzz/image.gif) or a simple filename (e.g. theMovie.mov) in the case where the file is kept in the same directory as the final, published HTML test.

  • Style - Designers may select to have the responses represented as pop-up menus or as radio buttons.  On some question types, it is possible to request a not applicable item to be added to the choices.  Also, an optional follow-up area is available for many response types.

  • Default Answer - Designers may select to have a particular asnwer to a question automatically selected.  In the case of surveys or other situations where you may not wish to prejudice your results, you may always select to have no default answer.
