Submission Feedback and Score-based Workflow

The Feedback submission handling options allow you to specify custom messages that will be returned to the user upon their submission of responses. This message can vary based on the score awarded to the users' responses.

Instead of issuing a message, you can optionally have the user redirected to a web page. For example, if the user's score was low, you could have them taken to a web site that addresses the subject of the assessment in more detail for remedial help.

If you enter an Internet URL (e.g. http://www.apple.com/ ) in any of the message boxes, instead of issuing a text message, the user's web browser will be redirected to that URL. Note that if you do choose to redirect the user to a URL, no score messages or submission feedback will be issued to the user. They will be sent immediately to the URL upon submission of their responses.

Substitution

  • If you wish to embed the user's score in the any of the submission feedback messages, enter %% into the feedback and their score will be substituted when Test Pilot issues the feedback.
  • If you wish to embed the user's name in the any of the submission feedback messages, enter @@ into the feedback and their name or id will be substituted when Test Pilot issues the feedback.
  • Note that in the case of a URL entry, these substitutions can be used to compose a URL that could be used to record a participant's score in a web-based electronic scorebook.

Any of the messages can include HTML if you wish. Check the HTML checkbox if you wish to override the default formatting of the message. As always, you are not required to use HTML.

  • default message - this message will be issued to the user by default. That is, if you have not specified any score-based messages or their score failed to meet the requirements you specified for score-based messages, the default message is issued.
  • score-based messages - you can specify up to four messages which will be issued if a certain score condition is met. You may specify conditions based on whether the score is greater than or equal to a number or if the score is less than or equal to a number. The comparisons are made in order from message 1 to message 4. Once a condition is satisfied, the message is issued and no further comparisons are made. If no conditions are satisfied, the default message is issued.
