The Editing Defaults screen offers convenience options when editing questions with Test Pilot's database.

- default question type - this allows you to select to have each new question automatically created with a particular type (e.g. ye/no, true/false, etc.). A special option allows you to choose to automatically duplicate the question you're currently working on when you create a new question. This helps when creating a survey with a numaber of questions who have the same set of responses and feedback. Note that you can make a choice here, enter a few questions and then come back and alter this and enter some more questions.
- default group - this allows you to select to have the question assigned to a particular group by default. Note that you can make a choice here, enter a few questions and then come back and alter this and enter some more questions.
- indent question - this allows you to select to have the text of each question indented to the same level as the user responses. Otherwise, the text will be indented at a level less that the participant response area.
- default response style - this allows you to select to have pop-up menus or radio buttons selected by default when creating a new question in the database. That is, when you create a new Test Pilot question and you are given an option as to present the possible responses as a pop-up menu or radio buttons, the option selected above will be used by default unless you change it.
- format questions as - if you will be entering a number of mathemaical questions which should be formatted as a column of figures, you can check this box and this special formatting will be selected when authoring any new questions.
- Place media - this allows you to select where you want any media displayed in relation to the question's text. You may choose to put the media above, to the left, to the right, below, indented above and indented below the question's text.
- default custom media size - when you elect to include video, streaming video, Shockwave or Flash animations with your questions, you typically need to specify the size of the area you wish to allocate for displaying the media on the web page. There are several standard sizes, however, you may have chosen your own standard size for such media. To avoid having to enter that size over and over as you enter your question, you can enter here the height and width in pixels of your custom media.
