The Random Variables tab presents the screen where you can declare random numeric variables that can be used in any or all questions on your assessment. This allows you to use one of Test Pilot's most powerful features, its formula-based mathematical questions, with data that will be common to multiple questions.

• variable name - this is the name assigned to the variable. To use the variable in any question or formula, enclose its name with [brackets].
  
  
• start - this is a real number indicating the smallest value that the variable can be assigned.
  
  
• end - this is a real number indicating the largest value that may be assigned to the variable
  
  
• increment - this is a real number indicating the step value or the minimum distance between randomly generated values

In the above example, the variable sideA ranges from 1 to 5 by 1 which yields {1,2,3,4,5} as the set of possible values which may be assigned to the variable. A typical use in question text of sideA might be as follows:

What is the perimeter of a square with sides [sideA] centimeters long?

It's use in a formula answer of the above question would be as follows:
