The User List security controls allow you to specify a list of user ids, names and e-mail addresses. It is the ids from this list that users may enter into the Test Pilot login screen's user id box to secure access to your assessment.

In order to limit access by user id, you must first check the enable these restrictions checkbox.

Test Pilot provides you with the option of entering the id list in the space provided or in an ASCII text file residing on the web server in the same directory as the file exported from the database. This permits the sharing of user lists between multiple assessments. If you choose to keep the user list in a file, check the read from filename checkbox and enter its filename in the space provided.

When Test Pilot is configured properly, it protects from access filenames ending with the extension .tpj We recommend that you end your access list filenames in X.tpj in order to take advantage of that built-in protection. (e.g. accessX.tpj, the X is to avoid conflicts with Test Pilot result filenames which also end in .tpj)

The file format is the same as the format of the list in the database. That is, an id followed by a comma followed by a name followed by a comma followed by an Internet e-mail address. You may leave out the name and e-mail address if you wish. The entries are entered one per line in the file or in the box on the screen shown above.

Note for Spreadsheet Users

You can quickly import this information from a spreadsheet as follows. Assuming you have columns for student id, name and e-mail address, create a new spreadsheet and copy and paste those columns into the new spreadsheet in the following order: id, name, e-mail. Select Save As from the File menu, choose CSV (comma separated text (values)) from the file format pop-up and name the file, accessX.tpj. You now have a file compatible with Test Pilot's user restriction capability.

If you wish to put the entries into the Test Pilot database directly, open accessX.tpj with a text editor or word processor. Select all and then copy and paste the text into the database's user list box like the one shown above.
