When a participant submits responses to the questions on your assessment, you determine what will occur using the options and controls in setting the submission actions. You may:

• do nothing, and Test Pilot will issue a simple thank you message
  
  
• e-mail a notification to the instructor or someone else
  
  
• issue a custom message
  
  
• show survey statistics,
  
  
• send the participant to a particular web site or web page
  
  
• perform some conditional feedback action. These may include:
  
  
  • issuing a custom message based upon their total score
    
    
  • issuing a custom message based upon their score on a particular question group
    
    
  • sending the participant to another web site or web page based upon their total score
    
    
  • sending the participant to another web site or web page based upon their score in a particular question group
    

You may specify multiple actions to take place. That is, you could issue a number of messages based upon the participant's scores in a number of areas.

These controls affect what will happen once a participant submits their responses to a Test Pilot assessment.

Score - you may choose to have Test Pilot inform the participant of their score on the assessment. You may elect to have the score reported immediately upon submission or later when the participant recalls their score manually. The later choice could allow the instructor to score essay question before scores are released. The correct answers are not returned to the participant when this is selected.

Answers - this causes Test Pilot to list, along with the participant's responses, the correct responses to scored questions. That is, for those questions which have a non-zero point award, the responses along with their point awards will be listed along with the participant's responses. While the correct answer is typically shown at submission time, if this option is enabled, its state is also honored when questions are offered one-at-a-time or a group-at-a-time with feedback between questions.

Feedback - this causes Test Pilot to issue, along with the review of the participant's responses, any custom feedback that has been entered. That is, while entering questions, you could have entered custom feedback for possible participant responses. This option causes that feedback to be shown to the participant. While the feedback is typically shown at submission time, if this option is enabled, its state is also honored when questions are offered one-at-a-time or a group-at-a-time with feedback between questions.

Totals - this causes Test Pilot to add a short message at the beginning of the generated web page that lists a count of questions receiving partial or full point awards. The correct answers are not returned to the participant when this is selected.

E-Mail - the first email option causes Test Pilot to send a short e-mail message to the assessment owner upon a participant submission. The owner e-mail address must be specified in the Security section in order for this option to function.

The second email option causes Test Pilot to show a button and data entry box on the evaluation page of the assessment. After the participant submits their responses and receives a score, they may enter an email address in the space provided and have a notification sent to the effect that they took the test and received a particular score. The participant must be listed in the test's authorized participant list and an email address must be associated with their id for this feature to function. (v4.1.3 and later)

The final email option causes Test Pilot to send submission notifications to an arbitrary list of addresses. The owner e-mail address must be specified in the Security section in order for this option to function. (v4.3 and later)

Statistics - this causes Test Pilot to show the assessment's cumulative question statistics as a result of a participant submission. The report is simliar to that issued when owners choose the View Statistics option. If this option is selected , no conditional feedback actions are executed. This option is very handy for public surveys. Frequency analysis bar charts and summary statistics are shown for each question in the assessment.

Recording - this causes Test Pilot to discard assessment submissions once feedback has been issued. This is useful for providing practice tests where individual participant responses do not need to be saved. Participants will still receive an evaluation of their response, if you have chosen to provide them with one. The submission will still be counted into the statistical summaries. However, if you check this option, it will be impossible to recall or score any individual participant reponse to any question.

default feedback - the message entered in this box is shown to the participant at submission time if no conditional feedback conditions are satisfied. Entering the special characters %% in the message will cause Test Pilot to substitute the actual score value in the message. Entering the special characters @@ in the message will cause Test Pilot to substitute the participant's user name into the message. Entering the special characters @u@ in the message will cause Test Pilot to substitute the participant's user id into the message.

You may also enter a fully qualified URL in the space provided. (e.g. http://www.clearLearning.com/ ) Entering a URL will cause the participant to be automatically whisked to the web site specified. Please note that this will prevent any review of the participant's responses. The HTML checkbox is provided for expert users who may want to format their feedback using custom HTML web page code.

Conditional Submission Actions

You may issue feedback or send the participant to a web site based upon the satisfaction of a condition that is typically based, in some way, upon their score on the assessment. You can check the add conditional feedback box and click update to create edit multiple conditional actions.
